Comparison of cervical length measurement in the 3rd trimester using transvaginal or transperineal ultrasound

ثبت نشده
چکیده

Objective Cervical length is often measured during the third trimester, especially in cases of threatened preterm labour. The gold standard is the transvaginal (TV) approach. A transabdominal approach is an alternative but it is often difficult to achieve a satisfactory image of the cervix in the third trimester. Transperineal (TP) ultrasound is considered less invasive and could offer a reliable alternative but has never been compared to the TV approach. The aim of this study was to compare the cervical length measurement obtained with the TV or the TP approach.

A comparison of ultrasonic measurement techniques for the maternal cervix in the second trimester

Introduction: The appropriate ultrasound technique to assess the maternal cervical length in women at low risk of preterm birth is yet to be established. This study aimed to determine the accuracy of different ultrasound approaches for measuring the maternal cervix in patients between 17 and 22 weeks gestation. Methods: The prospective study recruited 50 patients who were at a low risk of prete...

Cervical length at 22-24 weeks of gestation: comparison of transvaginal and transperineal-translabial ultrasonography.

OBJECTIVES To investigate the feasibility of measuring cervical length by transperineal or translabial sonography and compare the measurements obtained by this approach with those obtained transvaginally. METHODS In 500 women measurement of cervical length by translabial-transperineal sonography was attempted immediately before transvaginal scanning at 22-24 (median 23) weeks of gestation. In...

Reference values for the cervical length measurement in the second trimester of pregnancy using the transvaginal ultrasound in a large Brazilian population

To establish reference values for the cervical length (CL) measurement by transvaginal ultrasound between 20 and 24+6 weeks of gestation in a large Brazilian population. A retrospective cross-sectional study was performed with 996 singleton pregnancies. The CL measurement (mm) using the transvaginal ultrasound was obtained in a sagittal view and the calipers positioned to measure the linear dis...

Cervical length for predicting preterm birth and a comparison of ultrasonic measurement techniques

Introduction: Preterm birth is the leading cause of neonatal morbidity and mortality not attributable to congenital anomalies or aneuploidy. It has been shown that a shortened cervix is a powerful indicator of preterm births in women with singleton and twin gestations - the shorter the cervical length, the higher the risk of spontaneous preterm birth. Ultrasound measurements of the cervix are a...

Sonographic cervical length measurement in pregnant women with a cervical pessary.

OBJECTIVES The aims of this study were to describe and assess the feasibility of measuring cervical length by standard transvaginal sonography (TVS) and transperineal sonography (TPS) in women with a cervical pessary and compare these measurements with those obtained with a new transvaginal technique. METHODS Measurement of cervical length by TPS was attempted immediately before measurement u...
